The View Projection tool, (also called Project from View) simply creates a UV map of the currently selected polygons based on their visibility in the 3D viewport. The final UV will reflect the selected polygons as they appear in the viewport itself, almost like taking a photograph of them.

Usage

The View Projection tool is found in the toolbox of the UV Edit interface layout. The command can also be invoked from the menu bar under "Texture > UV Tools > View Projection Tool". Prior to activating the tool, the user should select, position and orient the target geometry within the viewport as the UV maps should be assigned. Once done, the command can be activated, and LMB+clicking in the 3D viewport will generate the map into the currently selected UV map (or most recently selected) or if there is no map present, a new map called 'Texture' will be created. If the user is not happy with the resulting map, the viewport can be adjusted, scaled and/or rotated, LMB+clicking again will update the UV map. When the tool is active, the following options are also available in the tool properties panel.

ViewProjectionPanel

Apply: This button applies the current tool setting, basically the same action as LMB+clicking in the 3D viewport, but can only be used when the tool is not in interactive mode.

Auto Scale: This option, when enabled, will automatically scale the resulting UV to fit precisely within the full 0-1 UV space.

Hidden Face: When this option is enabled, the resulting UV map will ignore any rear facing geoemtry (polygons that are facing away from the viewport).
