The Brush Editor window provides a centralized place where all the setting related to brushes can be manipulated and edited, presets saved for future use, while providing real-time visual feedback as to how the brush will affect the surface with each stroke. The editor window can be called from the 'Paint' tab in the interface with the 'Brush Editor' button in the 'Sculpt' and 'Paint' toolbox.

Brush Editor Panel

There are several sections of the window, at the top left is the brush preview pane, which is broken into three quadrants- the first shows a sample of the brush tip itself, be it soft or hard edged, the second shows a cut-away side-view of the brush, this could be considered like a graph of the pressure sensitivity of the brush; making it easy to visualize how the brush will increase in size as the amount of pressure increases. The last quadrant shows a sample stroke attenuating in pressure, providing a glimpse as to how the brush will perform when applied to a canvas. As users choose different brushes, the preview pane updates to display the current brush settings.

Directly below the Preview pane are various brush options. Within the 'Preset' section are the brush Tips themselves, required for painting or sculpting, each providing a variety of options related to different kinds of application. Selecting any of the brush tips will display the related attributes in the properties panel in the right hand side of the window. Edits made to the property attributes are reflected in the preview pane. The 'Presets' section also offers options to open a 'Preset Browser' window for stored brushes, and an option to save presets with the 'Save Brush Preset' button. Once stored, presets can be recalled for future use from the Brush Browser. Presets themselves are a collection of Tool and Tip combinations, with its own unique settings. To save a Preset, user need only to create a brush and press the 'Save Brush Preset' button to open an operating specific window where the user can name the preset file and save it to the drive. In order for the brush to show up in the palette, users will need to navigate the the 'Brushes' folder of the default 'Content' directory. For more information on working with Presets, please reference the 'Preset Browser' page of the documentation. The Brush Tips properties themselves are covered individually on the 'Brush Tips' page of the documentation.

Directly below the Brush Tips are the 'Inks' and the 'Nozzle', these options work in tandem with the tools and brush tips creating ever more powerful brushes, providing additional options that define how the virtual paint is applied to the surface where strokes are laid down. The Inks are covered on the 'Inks' page of the documentation, with the 'Nozzle' covered on its respective page.

Brush Browser

The brush browser is a handy function to catalog and organize collection of brush presets, which can be any combination of Tool and Tip, making it easy to recall specialty brushes. When presets are created, if the resulting files are saved into the existing 'Content' directory structure, under the 'Brushes' folder, they will appear automatically in the Brush Browser, otherwise, users can use the 'Add Path...' option to add the directory. The Brush Browser works identical to the 'Preset Browser' window covered in detail on its page of the documentation.
